Are you setting a goal that is perfect for you?
Let’s be honest – setting up and achieving a goal can be tough. The first decision you have to make is to even try. Along with figuring out not only what you want, but the timeline of achieving it. And most importantly, taking actions every single day that will get you there.
To make it easier for you, we put together a list of 5 qualities of a good goal – qualities that, in our personal experience, can significantly increase your chances of success.
But enough talking, let’s dive right into it!
So, a good goal is a goal that is:
Aspirational
Who said that we should dream small?! Dream BIG, dream BIGGER!
The bigger you dream, the more you will achieve – trust us!
And remember, if you achieve 80%, 50%, or even 20% of your goal – it’s already a success!
Valuable
Your goal needs to be something that will bring YOU value. Something that will make YOU happier.
Remember, always focus on YOUR wants, needs and priorities. Not someone else’s.
Impactful
It’s great to work on something that brings value to us personally. But it’s absolutely AWESOME to work on something that ALSO creates a positive impact on something or someone else.
Think broader than just about yourself! And you will see how much more inspired and motivated you will be.
By the way, we are not talking here about changing the world (although that would definitely be amazing!). If your goals make your family, your friends, your team, or just some strangers happier – it’s 100% worth it!
Enjoyable
This one might sound obvious, but let us explain.
You are about to step onto the journey, because let’s face if, you working on the goal is a journey! And it’s not just about the end result, it’s about the journey itself!
You want to enjoy the process, enjoy the journey – this is where the TRUE success is!
Actionable
It’s all about small, simple actions that you take every day. They don’t have to be big, but they definitely have to be consistent!
Before you start working on your goal, ask yourself – can I define a path on how am I going to achieve it?
You don’t have to create the whole path at the beginning of the process, but you should at least be able to identify immediate next steps.
Under your control
Did we say it would be a list of 5 qualities? Well, here is the 6th bonus one?
It’s a tricky one.
You definitely want to try and frame your goal in terms that are within your power.
For example, “I want to win the race” might be a tough goal to achieve – you don’t know other athletes’ abilities, so you can’t actually guarantee that you are going to win.
But if you say, “I want to be ready for the race“, then it’s pretty much under your control.
The tricky part is – there are always going to be things outside of your control.
So here is what matters most. As long as you stay intentional, focused and committed, you will see the results. And let us repeat what we already said earlier:
Achieving 80%, 50%, or even 20% of your goal is a success! Always remember it!
