The Page About Doubts, Overthinking, and Getting Unstuck

You know what? Having doubts is okay. Being emotional is okay. Feeling stuck is okay.

Because after a moment of doubt, a moment of confidence will come. After you let your emotions out, you will feel better. After you get stuck, you will always get unstuck.

In this episode, I share the story of my doubt-and-overthinking-filled struggles to make my brand, program, offers, and website reflect the new direction I’m taking in my business.

I don’t normally complain or give up. Usually, when I face a problem, I go ahead and deal with it. I do my thing, quietly persevere, and keep my own worries to myself.

But there are two cases in particular when I feel stuck, and helpless and hopeless.

One is when something is simply outside of my control. It drives me crazy when I see the problem but I have no ability to change anything and solve it. I was getting married in 2020, and until the last minute I didn’t know if they would even allow us to get married! I could not do anything about it, and it was driving me nuts!

And there is another case when I feel the same way.

I am a very thoughtful person, and when solving a problem I usually do a lot of thinking. In general, thinking is a good thing, right? Well, not always.

Sometimes too much thinking causes more damage than does good. It’s a cycle: you start thinking about the problem, you uncover some depth or width in it, so you begin to deal with this new information, and uncover more, and more, and more. You cannot define the boundaries of this problem, and it snowballs. Before you know it you are looking at a problem that is so huge you completely have no idea what to do with it.

And then I just blank out and cannot think at all. I get completely stuck.

This is exactly what happened to me last Friday.

A few months ago, I decided to pivot in my business. I had learned a lot from the launch of my mobile app and then the launch of my group program, and I felt like it was time to get back to the foundation of my brand and revise it.

Did I tell you that I am a very thoughtful person? I don’t want to just do stuff, or sell products or tickets to my program – I want it to be valuable. I am truly passionate about not only what I do, but why I do it. And it is very important for me that my business sits on a strong foundation – vision, and mission, and values.

It is important to me that whenever someone comes across my work, my vision and mission and values are clear to them.

And this is where I usually have the absolutely hardest time.

You know when you are sleeping and are having dreams, your dreams make perfect sense to you while you are in the dream. But the moment you wake up, you are like, “What the hell was this nonsense that I dreamt about?”

This is exactly how I feel when it comes to articulating my thoughts!

Deep inside me, it makes perfect sense – I feel it. But once I try to write it down or explain to someone, it feels like a mess.

So, I was in that pivotal moment a few months ago.

First, I decided to try to figure it out myself – “well maybe this time I won’t have this problem?” Nope, it’s still there.

“Alright, I need help. And I need it now.” Because anytime I get stuck in my thoughts like this, I get extremely uncomfortable. I just want to keep moving forward instead of sitting and being stuck!

I knew exactly who would be able help me – a good friend of mine and an awesome brand strategist.

So, I messaged her, “I need your help.”

She responded, “Sure, when do you want to meet?”

“How about this week?”

In a few days, we got on Zoom and spent a few hours brainstorming around my message. She was asking all the right questions, and I was feeling better simply by letting all of my thoughts out – I knew she would be able to turn my messy thoughts into something that makes sense for a normal person.

And she did. Several days later, she sent me my brand messaging guide, and I was reading it and hallelujah it made sense!

Finally! What a relief!

Well, this relief didn’t last long…

Inspired by this new brand messaging guide, I decided to… tweak my program, just a little bit – to make it better suit the promise!

And guess what – as soon as I started tweaking it, I started the same cycle.
