Welcome to the 4th, and final, part of our “Find your purpose” series. In previous parts we have learned to love and appreciate ourselves, we pictured our dream life and worked on the limiting beliefs that prevent us from getting there. Now it’s time to set direction, create an action plan, and start moving toward your dream life!
Step 1 – Choose your priority
Out of everything that you pictured, what is most important to you at this point in your life? What is ONE thing that you want to work on first? Choosing just one priority will help you stay focused, will help you see results faster and therefore will help you keep your motivation level up high!
It doesn’t mean that all other aspects of your dream life will never come true. It means that you are being wise about where to direct your energy TODAY.
Later on, when working on your current priority becomes your second nature, you will be able to add to it.
But right now let’s choose ONE priority to help set direction.
Step 2 – Create your goal
Let’s think about the priority that you chose. Ask yourself – where do you want to be 12 months from now when it comes to this area of your life?
How much can you achieve in 12 months? How much WILL you achieve in 12 months?
Be realistic, but also don’t be afraid to be aspirational and dream big. Remember – the bigger you dream, the further you get!
Create your goal, and make sure you create a good goal!
Step 3 – Define your first milestone
Okay, we have a long-term plan, now let’s create a short-term plan.
What can you do in the next 30 days that will get you closer to your goal? What position do you want to be in 30 days from now?
This is going to be your first milestone – something that will help you track whether you are making progress TOWARDS your goal, whether you are moving in the right direction.
Write it down somewhere, don’t keep it in your head. Ideally, put it somewhere where you can see it every day – you want to make sure you always keep your milestone in mind!
Step 4 – Let’s make it actionable
Okay, you know where you want to be in 30 days. Now, finally, let’s plan specific actions that will get you there. What tasks can you start doing TODAY that will help move the needle? And not just can. Name tasks that you WILL start doing today.
Yes, that’s right – you really need to commit yourself to your goal!
And let us warn you – you need to ensure you MAKE time for these tasks. Otherwise, you will fall back into your usual daily routine and will never take action on them.
Add these tasks to your phone, or write them down in your planner ? You want to make sure they are in front of you when you need it! And don’t forget about reminders!
Please note that this is not a one-time exercise. You will need to come back to your task list regularly and review/update it. Also, in 30 days you will need to review your milestone, see how you did, and set a new one for yourself.
